Family and Friends Group Classes in Richmond

“Often Family and Friends are Unaware Help is Available When Their Love-One Begins Treatment!”

Started in 2012, the group meets the first Saturday of each month in the 7113 Three Chopt Road, Suite 205, Henrico, Virginia, 23226 Office from 10:30am to noon. The group is provided as a community service to family and friends of the many and diverse clientele who participate in our program. The program does not charge a fee; rather, our doors are open to prospective participants unannounced or planned. Those who choose to reserve a space may call (804) 778-7685 or email casseltonconsultants@comcast.net or LBrown8102@outlook.com.

AGENDA: the staff utilizes motivational interviewing and other conversational techniques to establish rapport and generate discussion. Many family and friends have not had an opportunity to consider they may need healing treatment just like their loved one who is participating in our program. The Family and Friends Education Group considers thoughts and feelings that arise over months or years of caring about someone else who has an addiction.

The group focuses on:

1. BASIC EDUCATION INFORMATION includes a video, Families in Recovery, prepared by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). In the video, real family members and addicted persons in recovery discuss why family education is important to the success of the addict/alcoholic yet is most necessary to the healing of the friend or family member.

2. RESOURCE INFORMATION is disseminated to include Al-anon/Nar-anon Family Services, Al-anon/Nar-anon Meeting List, what to expect if one attends an Al-anon Meeting and other resources to include Families Anonymous; Adult Children of Alcoholics; Co-Dependents Anonymous; Alateen; Alatot; Social Services; Faith-Based Counseling and our Henrico County Community Services Board.

3. SUMMARY AND DISCUSSION: Staff initiates a discussion inspired by the questions posed during the program. Staff encourages the participants to engage in self-care and healthy living to enhance coping skills and reduce stress. Staff emphasizes their love-one who is participating in our program is working hard to make positive change.

Those who choose to reserve a space may call (804) 778-7685 or email LBrown8102@outlook.com. Questions about the group are directed to the same. The group is intended for persons age 18 or older to allow all guests to feel comfortable sharing their questions and experiences.

Please come and join us! We meet the first Saturday of each month from 10:30 AM to 12:00 noon.
