Education and Treatment

  1. BASIC EDUCATION INFORMATION includes a video, Families in Recovery, prepared by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). In the video, real family members and addicted persons in recovery discuss why family education is important to the success of the addict/alcoholic yet is most necessary to the healing of the friend or family member.
  2.  RESOURCE INFORMATION is disseminated to include Al-anon/Nar-anon Family Services, Al-anon/Nar-anon Meeting List, what to expect if one attends an Al-anon Meeting and other resources to include Families Anonymous; Adult Children of Alcoholics; Co-Dependents Anonymous; Alateen; Alatot; Social Services; Faith-Based Counseling and our Henrico County Community Services Board.
  3. SUMMARY AND DISCUSSION: Staff initiates a discussion inspired by the questions posed during the program. Staff encourages the participants to engage in self-care and healthy living to enhance coping skills and reduce stress. Staff emphasizes their love-one who is participating in our program is working hard to make positive changes.

The group is intended for persons age 18 or older to allow all guests to feel comfortable sharing their questions and experiences. Please come and join us! We meet the third Saturday of each month from 10:30 AM to 12:00 noon.
